SPIRE Cheshire Hospital has become the first Spire Healthcare site and the first in the North of England to perform a ROSA robotic-assisted partial knee replacement.
The hospital’s achievement ranks it second in the UK and fourth in Europe to carry out the advanced procedure, which promises greater precision, improved comfort, and faster recovery for patients.
Nikhil Pradhan, consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Spire Cheshire Hospital, performed the surgery.
Mr Pradhan said: “This is a hugely exciting step for both our team and our patients.
“The ROSA system allows for an exceptionally accurate and personalised approach to knee surgery, particularly in partial knee replacements where precision is vital.
“By integrating real-time data and advanced planning software, we can tailor the procedure to each patient’s unique anatomy, with the aim to improve comfort, recovery and long-term outcomes.”

It supports both total and partial knee replacements.
Gurjeet Sidhu, Zimmer Biomet’s Senior Sales Representative for Spire Cheshire Hospital, said:
“The ROSA Robotic Knee Replacement system represents the latest advancement in knee arthroplasty, supporting surgeons in delivering highly accurate, personalised and efficient knee replacements both total and partial.”
Benefits for patients include improved implant positioning, potentially less post-operative pain, shorter recovery times, and a more tailored surgical experience.
