nSTRIDE

Knee Presentation for Patient Education

Knee injections may be used to help treat chronic tendon problems, knee pain conditions and cartilage injury. They are used in acute sport injuries and also to treat some chronic conditions such as tendinitis.

nSTRIDE autologous treatment for osteoarthritis knee pain

The Cheshire Hip & Knee Clinic is pleased to offer nSTRIDE, a novel therapy designed to treat pain and slow the progression of cartilage degradation and destruction in the knee.

Patients with mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis might be suitable to receive the nSTRIDE APS treatment.

Steroid injection

A steroid injection in the knee is a medical procedure where a healthcare professional injects a steroid medication into the knee joint to reduce pain and inflammation. Steroids are powerful anti-inflammatory drugs that can help relieve pain and swelling in the knee caused by conditions such as arthritis, bursitis, or tendinitis.

The injection is typically given in the doctor’s office or clinic and takes only a few minutes to complete. Before the injection, the area around the knee may be cleaned with an antiseptic solution, and a local anesthetic may be used to numb the area. The healthcare provider will then insert a needle into the knee joint and inject the steroid medication.

After the injection, you may feel some mild discomfort or pain around the injection site for a few days. Its also important to rest and avoid strenuous activities for a few days to allow the medication to take effect.
Your healthcare provider will provide specific instructions on how to care for your knee after the injection.

Its important to note that steroid injections are not a cure for knee problems and may provide only temporary relief. The benefits and risks of the injection should be discussed with your healthcare provider, as there are some potential side effects associated with steroid use. Additionally, its important to address the underlying cause of knee pain and inflammation to prevent future problems.

Osteonil Plus injection

OSTENIL® PLUS is a solution containing hyaluronic acid developed specifically for the treatment of osteoarthritis. It can be injected into the knee, or any of the other synovial joints in the body to decrease pain and stiffness and improve the other symptoms of osteoarthritis.

How long can it take to work? It can take a couple of weeks for you to feel the benefit from an Ostenil® Plus injection. Some patients do feel better almost immediately but most will take between one and 5 weeks for the effects to gradually build up

When the effects of your injection begin to wear off, if your clinician agrees, you may safely choose to have another injection. Thereafter you can continue with to have the treatment administered whenever necessary. Typically you may have an injection every 4-6 months.
